On 31 July 2018, I attended the AWS Public Sector Lunch & Learn at the AWS Singapore office at Church Street.
I arrived at their office at around 1130am. The first item on the agenda was Lunch & Networking.
We were served food catered by Grain. There were many options available like salmon, chicken and even a banana cake! I chose to have the Grilled Farm Fresh Chicken.
At around 1210pm, the session started. In this session, the speaker, Julian Lau gave a great introduction on what is AWS and the definition of Cloud Computing. He also explained what are the benefits of using AWS, mainly the pay-as-you-go model that AWS offers, you are only charged when you use the product.
He talked about how AWS is the top cloud provider, followed by Microsoft's Azure in second place and Google Cloud in third place. Followed by the security features of AWS. He also emphasized the shared responsibility model where AWS is not 100% liable for any data breach as it is the administrator's has a role to secure the data, similar to AWS which secures our data on a larger scale.
Overall, I think this was a great introduction to the different services in the AWS platform and can give people a head start on what services they might need.
